Seongah Shin is a composer, sound artist, educator, and a head of biggiefried production in Seoul, South Korea. She is also the Vice President for Asia/Oceania and Asia/Oceania Regional Directors for the International Computer Music Association (ICMA).

Seongah Shin, a composer, computer musician, sound designer, and educator, is a native of Seoul. She holds a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in Composition at the Conservatory and Master in Fine Arts degree in theatre: design and technology, emphasis in sound design from the Theatre Department from University of Missouri-Kansas City where she studies with Dr. Chen Yi, Dr. James Mobberley, Dr. Paul Rudy, and Prof. Tom Mardikes. She also holds a Master of Music degree in Computer Music Composition from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University where she studied with Dr. McGregor Boyle. She studied composition and computer music with Prof. Hwang, Sungho at the Chugye University for the Arts in Seoul, Korea

Dr. Shin has also held the residency position at the Missouri Repertory Theatre in Kansas City where she composed and designed the music of the production Morning Star in 2001-2002 season with director Risa Brainin. Her music has been performed at various conferences and festivals, including the Seoul International Computer Music Festival, Society of Composers Inc., June in Buffalo, Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival, Santa Fe International Electroacoustic Music Festival, the “literatur-schallmauer” project and various others. She also studied with Betsy Jolas, Andre Bon in Conservatoire America, and worked as a leading sound designer in the Aspen Music Festival and School in Film Scoring where she was the recipient of the Susan & Ford Schumann Scholarship. She worked as an artist residency in 2003-2004 at the iEAR studio at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. She is a member of Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Korean Electro-Acoustic Music Society.

In 2004, Dr. Shin returned to her hometown, Seoul, Korea and started to teach the computer music, music technology, history of popular music and various musical and technical subjects at the universities. She is a residency designer for Mythos Theatre Production in Seoul since 2004. Dr. Shin just finished the exhibition, sound installation “Sonic Wall”, a collaborative work with an architect Mr. Han, Manwon, called the CRISS-CROSS Archi+tists=For(m)oment exhibision at the Wooduck Gallery in Seoul. Recently, she got the grants NArT (New Artist Trend) Program from the Arts Council Korea and the Seoul Foundation for Arts & Culture which will support her concert that performed entire her works in Feb 2007 in Seoul. She got a commission to write a piece for Maya Trio which is based in New York City, consists of Harp, Flute, and Percussion. It will be world premiere in New York City in 2008 season. She has been elected as an Asia/Oceania Regional Director and Vice President for Asia/Oceania for the International Computer Music Association in 2008. Her audio-visual work, spring_flowing will perform in International Computer Music Conference(ICMC) 2008 in Balfest, North Island.

Dr. Shin is now a full-time professor in the Department of Composition, College of Music & Performanc Arts, Keimung University in Daegue, South Korea.

작곡가, 사운드 디자이너, 컴퓨터 뮤지션인 신성아는 추계예술대학교 작곡과를 졸업했으며, 미국 존스홉킨스대학교 피바디음악원 컴퓨터음악작곡 석사학위, 미국 미주리주립대학교 연극대학 사운드디자인 석사학위, 미주리주립대학교 음악대학 작곡전공으로 박사학위를 받았다.

2000년 미국 아스펜음악제 슈만영화학교에서 사운드디자이너로 일하였고, 2001-2 미국 미주리주립극단 사운드디자인 레지던트로 일하였으며, 2003년 미국 런셀러폴리텍 인스티뷰드(RPI) iEAR Studio에서 초청작곡가로 작업하였다. 2004년에 한국으로 돌아온 후, 백석대학교 컴퓨터음악과 전임강사로 재직하면서 한국예술종합학교 음악원/영상원, 서울시립대학교, 추계예술대학교 작곡과에서 작곡/사운드/컴퓨터음악을 가르쳤다.

현재, 국제컴퓨터음악협회(ICMA) 아시아/오세아니아 지부장을 맡고 있으며, 청각예술분야를 중심으로 연극, 무용, 미디어, 영화, 실험영화, 인스톨레이션, 다원예술 등 다양한 예술분야에서 활발한 활동을 하고 있다. 계명대학교 음악공연예술대학 작곡과 교수로 재직중이다. http://www.kmu.ac.kr/
